Q What is Invisalign?
A Invisalign is one of the most popular orthodontic treatments currently available. The treatment comes in the form of transparent aligners that allow orthodontic correction to progress practically unnoticed. This type of orthodontic treatment is particularly suited to adults as the aligners work quickly and discreetly to straighten the teeth.

Q How is it different from traditional braces?
A Invisalign is in a completely different league to traditional fixed braces. This is because the aligners used for treatment can be removed, allowing for easy maintenance of oral hygiene and a lowered risk of gum irritation.

There are no wires or brackets present and the treatment works by the replacement of aligners every two weeks. The aligners work in a way that gently repositions the teeth, meaning Invisalign is relatively pain-free.

Q Is it discreet?
A Invisalign is currently the most discreet orthodontic treatment available. The aligners are practically invisible and free of wires and brackets.

Q Am I suitable for Invisalign?
A Invisalign is designed to treat both mild cases such as overcrowding and more severe cases including bite problems. Other orthodontic issues that Invisalign is designed to fix include:

  • Overbites
  • Underbites
  • Crossbites
  • Openbites
  • Spacing problems

Q How long does the treatment usually take?
A The treatment process depends entirely upon the individual’s requirements. Typically, the expected length of treatment ranges from 6 months to a year, with the aligners being replaced every 2 weeks. The aligners should be worn for around 20-22 hours per day for a maximum rate of success.

Q Will it cause pain or discomfort?
A Invisalign is designed for comfort and easy removal. However, as with all orthodontic treatments you are likely to experience some form of discomfort. This discomfort is at its worst during the first fitting of the aligners but soon subsides.

It will take time for the mouth to grow accustomed to the new aligners so speech may be slightly impaired for a short while. The teeth will soon become used to the aligners and any discomfort will eventually cease.

Q What does treatment involve?
A When your dentist can confirm that you are eligible to receive Invisalign after the initial consultation, the following steps will be taken:

  • Impressions will be taken of the teeth, which will then be sent off so that custom-made aligners can be produced.
  • The aligners are fitted and a treatment plan is discussed between you and the dentist. This is to ensure that the aligners are properly taken care of and that you are aware of when you are allowed to remove them for cleaning, etc.
  • During 2 week intervals a check-up will be issued so that you can receive your replacement aligners and continue to progress to the next stage of orthodontic correction.
  • When the treatment has been completed your dentist will issue you with a retainer to ensure your teeth do not relapse.

Q How much does Invisalign cost?
A Treatment usually starts from £2500 but for milder cases it can start from only £1800. The treatment cost is completely dependent on the patient’s specific requirements, so expect to pay more for complex cases.
